What is the Social Security Ticket to Work (TTW) Program?

The Social Security Ticket to Work (TTW) Program is a free and voluntary program from the Social Security Administration (SSA) that helps people with disabilities who receive SSI (Supplemental Security Income) or SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance) return to work or enter the workforce without immediately losing their benefits.

Key Features of the Ticket to Work Program:

1. Voluntary Participation

  • You’re not required to participate; it’s optional.

  • If you choose to join, you work with approved Employment Networks (ENs) or State Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) agencies to receive employment support services.

2. Eligibility

  • Ages 18 to 64

  • Actively receiving SSI or SSDI

  • Want to work and become financially independent

3. Services Offered

  • Depending on the provider (EN or VR agency), services may include:

    • Career counseling

    • Job placement and development

    • Resume building and interview prep

    • On-the-job support and training

    • Benefits counseling (to help you understand how work affects your benefits)

4. Protection from Medical Reviews (CDRs)

  • While actively participating in the program and making progress, you’re generally exempt from Continuing Disability Reviews (CDRs).

5. Work Incentives

  • SSA offers work incentives that allow beneficiaries to test their ability to work while still receiving benefits for a period of time.

  • Examples:

    • Trial Work Period (TWP): You can work for 9 months without losing SSDI benefits.

    • Extended Period of Eligibility (EPE): After the TWP, you can still receive benefits if your income falls below a certain level.

    • Expedited Reinstatement: If benefits stop and you’re unable to continue working,

Organizations like Inspire Career Services (your company) can become approved Employment Networks to support beneficiaries by:

  • Building career pathways

Am I Qualified? 

You may qualify for the Ticket to Work Program if you meet the following criteria:

  • Receive SSDI or SSI benefits

  • Are between the ages of 18 and 64

  • Want to work or explore employment options
